Redundancy Management

Support can be provided during this difficult business decision to ensure employees are supported in an empathetic manner. This can be achieved by using a fair, robust and consistent process to treat everyone equally and with respect.

Aim:

Typical support can be providing a legally compliant redundancy process that is understood and bought into by all stakeholders and equipping and supporting the management team to clearly, fairly and consistently deploy the process across the whole site/project. In the past this has involved –

  • Positioning and engaging the project team and key stakeholders so they are aware of the overall process and their role as well as providing
  • Support to them personally to enhance their confidence.
  • Designing a robust process which includes an overall project plan, redundancy policy, advising on selection criteria and pools.
  • Preparing a communication plan and brief, coordinating and providing a timetable of activities and FAQs for the announcement day.
  • Managing collective consultation meetings and relationships with Trade Unions
  • Preparing Managers for consultation, conducting 1:1 meetings with line managers

Return on Investment:

Investing in time and support through this difficult period can have many benefits:

  • Those directly affected are treated with respect and disruption is minimised
  • Those indirectly affected observe carefully how those leaving are treated and as we aim for these observations to be positive, this will again minimise disruption and maintain levels of productivity
  • Tribunal claims are minimised
  • A process is designed that is left with the organisation for future use and reference
  • External experts work with colleagues in your company to grow internal experience and expertise

Examples:

We worked with a high profile client to manage their first major redundancy activity. We managed the process from the strategic and detailed planning through to announcement, release and subsequently the provision of outplacement support through our sister company, Newleaf. The process received praise from legal teams and was implemented with minimum disruption and full engagement of key stakeholders.

Testimonial Data:

“The assignment went well. Our consultant guided us through the process in a calm and professional manner. The participant’s feedback shows that they thought the process to be fair and professionally conducted.”
